Job Summary: Laboratory Travel/Contract Position
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Work Hours: 9 AM - 5 PM
- Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years in Laboratory specialty (highest requirement)
- Certifications Required: ASCP-PA
- Equipment Experience: Frozen Section Cryostat, Stryker saw, and band saw experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Local candidates accepted
Required Credentials & Certifications
- ASCP-PA Certification (mandatory)
- Basic Life Support (BLS): AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable. Required for all RNs and many tech roles.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required for certain RN roles and critical care units; not required for Laboratory specialty but verify if applicable.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Not typically required for Laboratory roles.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Not typically required for Laboratory roles.
- Chemotherapy Certification: Not required for Laboratory specialty.
- Other Certifications: Must verify any specialty-specific certifications as applicable.
Compliance & Background Checks
- Criminal Background Check required within 30 days of start
- Must include all aliases and locations worked/lived in past 7 years
- Pending background checks require signed attestation at start
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks not required for this facility
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for renewals
- New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List check required within 30 days of start and for extensions
Health & Safety Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (blood or skin test)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and Respiratory Medical Clearance required prior to start (on-site fit testing mandatory)
- Latex Allergy Screening Questionnaire within 12 months of start if job tasks require glove use
- Color Blind Exam if job tasks require color discrimination
- Annual OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission training required
- Additional health documents: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as per facility policy
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for all RNs and LPNs within 72 hours of signing
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for applicable units (verify if applicable for Laboratory)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for clinical staff; remediation process in place for failures
- Color Blind Testing required within 1 year of start if applicable
Documentation & History
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)
- Skills checklist to be completed and updated annually
Facility Specific Requirements
- Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment or site transfer
- Annual education sign-off and review of facility-specific education materials required prior to start
- Vendor Medical Clearance Form required for candidates with history of positive TB
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not typically applicable for Laboratory)
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs required for certain clinical roles (verify applicability)
