Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in an acute patient setting.
- Deliver holistic and individualized care considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers.
- Responsible for patient/family education and transitions of care.
- RN will float to all campuses as census requires.
- Shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:30), including weekend rotation. Flexibility to float mid-shift is required.
Requirements
- California RN licensure
- BLS (AHA or ARC) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience (highest required years of experience)
- Flexibility to float between campuses
Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS) - must be current (1-2 year expiration)
- Other certifications may be position-dependent and verified by management (e.g., PALS, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, NRP)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Competency exams relevant to the unit or profession may be required
Background & Compliance Checks
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred but not mandatory).
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- References: 2 professional references required (Aya requirement, not client).
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; employment verification required.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear candidate for work).
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Immunizations and/or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids).

- Candidates must be flexible to float between campuses as needed.
- ICU RNs at CPMC locations may be required to take an EKG exam onsite after start.

- Employment gaps over 30 days must be explained; gaps over 1 year require approval and may lead to contract cancellation.
This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs licensed in California who are comfortable with travel assignments and flexible scheduling, including floating between campuses.
