Job Description
- Float position covering:
- ICU Step Down Unit (HICU)
- Brain Health Unit (BHU)
- Burk 2 (Long-Term Care Ventilator Unit)
Unit Details:
HICU:
- 40-bed unit for patients needing close monitoring and frequent interventions
- Patients require ICU step down, telemetry, and/or med/surg level care
- Patients are stable but critically ill with complex acute and chronic conditions (e.g., post cardiac arrest, pneumonia, sepsis, respiratory failure, CVA rehab)
- Use of specialty equipment: G-tubes, PICC lines, chest tubes, High Flow Nasal Cannula, tracheostomies, mechanical ventilation
- Management of blood transfusions and non-titratable drips
BHU:
- 60 beds across two floors
- Patients with medical and neurological diagnoses
- Average length of stay: 20-25 days
- Focus on medication management, rehabilitation, and patient engagement in group and one-on-one activities
Burk 2 (Ventilator Unit):
- 18-23 beds for patients with chronic and complex respiratory problems requiring ventilator support
- Requires strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement nursing interventions, and develop care plans
- Special training required for ventilator care and alarm response
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (highest required)
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Schedule: Every other weekend
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education verification and accreditation confirmation (must verify nursing education program approval)
- State nursing license primary source verification (NURSYS verification required)
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with boosters if needed
- Varicella (Chickenpox) with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
- Respirator fit test (on-site) for new contracts
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG (Relias or Prophecy accepted)
- Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication exams with remediation if needed
- Facility-specific policies acknowledgment (floating policy, time and attendance)
- Completion of ReadySet account setup and OSHA respirator fit test survey prior to start
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs as required (must be stroke- and trauma-related, updated annually)

- Unit-specific skills checklist required
- References and employment verification required (2 professional references within 2 years)
- Candidate must be prepared to float between multiple units with varying patient acuity and care needs
- Special training provided for ventilator care and alarm management on Burk 2 unit
