Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Location: Glenview, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR RN)
  • Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (07:00 - 15:30)
  • Call Requirements: Pre-assigned by coordinator; 1-2 call shifts per week expected
  • Weekend Requirement: 2-3 weekend days per 8-week schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: Option to pick up holiday call or fill in as needed
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 for all shifts; 16 rooms and 16 beds

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Licensure: Must have an active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • CNOR preferred
  • Additional Certifications (preferred or required):
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM (various certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit)

Clinical Requirements & Skills

  • Specialty Experience Required:
    • Vascular and ophthalmology experience required
    • General OR experience required
    • Vascular call experience required
  • Preferred Experience: CVOR & Hybrid OR experience
  • Surgery Case Experience Required:
    • Endo/Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular
  • Specific Vascular Skills:
    • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, Aortocaval fistula repair, Aortoenteric fistula repair, Arteriovenous fistula repair, Arteriovenous malformation surgery, Atherectomy, Carotid angioplasty, Carotid artery stenting, Carotid Endarterectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, Femoral popliteal bypass graft, Renal artery bypass surgery, Scrub Vascular Surgery, TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair), Vein stripping
  • General Surgery Skills:
    • Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Scrub General Surgery, Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
  • Ophthalmology Skills:
    • Cataract extraction/implant, Eye trauma, Glaucoma surgery, Vitrectomy, Scrub Ophthalmology Surgery
  • Urology Skills:
    • Cystoscopy
  • Additional Required Experience: Trauma amputation
  • Equipment/Instrumentation Experience:
    • Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords
  • Professional Knowledge & Skills:
    • Administration of blood products, Cardiac monitoring, Infection control, Laser safety, Radiation safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Background Checks: Standard background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific mask types required)
    • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • Drug testing (10 panel) within 30 days of start
    • Flu vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
    • Eye exam (Snellen vision test) and color blindness test within 1 year of start
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency (not required for OR RNs)
  • References: 2 references required
