Registered Nurse – PCU

Location: Columbus, Ohio Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 16 weeks Unit: 12 Surg Onc (mixed acuity unit caring for PCU and Med Surg patients; a very busy surgical floor where all permanent staff are PCU trained)

Schedule

• Shift: Night (3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30)
• Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Based on the rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination, depending on department needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed.
• Weekend schedule varies based on unit needs.
• No set or blocked scheduling is offered.
• All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice.

Staffing

• Goal ratio is 1:4, but can be 1:5.

Patient Population

• Adults and geriatrics

Patient diagnoses:

• Surgical oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma
• Hepatobiliary: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract cancers, neuroendocrine
• Colorectal: colon, rectal cancer
• Plastics: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma

Procedures and clinical focus:

• Chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics
• Oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome
• Insulin drips, heparin drips
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Other Requirements

• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
• Review and sign the dress code and hand hygiene policy
• Annual ethics and compliance policy acknowledgment
• Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate before start, updated annually
• Confidential fraud, waste, abuse, and compliance reporting form
• Stroke education may be required for certain units, as assigned
