Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Overview
- Location: Quincy, Illinois
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night (4x12 hours), 19:00 to 07:00
- Hours: 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week
Schedule and Assignment
- Nights, with every other weekend
- Float as needed
- Block scheduling can be partially accommodated
- Target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6, with an occasional 1:7 that is not frequent
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- 1 year of Med Surg experience, obtained within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI
- Stroke certification (NIHSS, NIH Stroke Certification), required for all travelers and updated annually
Competencies and Testing
- Competency exam as applicable to profession, with a minimum passing score of 80% unless the Angoff score is higher
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Core Parts I, II, and III, updated annually
- OSHA mandatory training, updated annually
- Skills checklist, required annually
- Color blindness testing, within 12 months of start
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 30 days of start, stating the traveler is in good health and cleared to work without restrictions
- N95 fit test within 12 months of start
- Tdap within 10 years, or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray, with an annual TB questionnaire
- Measles (rubeola), mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity (titer, vaccine series, or documented declination)
- 10-panel drug test dated within 30 days of start, repeated annually, no rapid results
- Influenza vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 to 3/31)
- COVID vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption
Background and Onboarding
- 7-year criminal background check, completed within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, completed within 30 days of start and annually
- Education verification (diploma or transcript accepted)
- Verification of the last 3 years of work history
- Employment application
- 2 professional references within 3 years
- Computer-based learning modules, about 4 hours, completed before start
- Driver's license or state ID (2 forms of ID required)
