Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours guaranteed

Unit & Patient Care Information

• Work on an 8-bed Short Stay/Intermediate Care observation unit
• Patient types include anemia, cellulitis, COPD, dehydration, pre/post-op urology and GI cases
• Manage drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin
• Average patient stay up to 48 hours
• High volume of admissions and discharges
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Float to all inpatient units as needed, including Intermediate Care (IMC) and Critical Transitional Unit (CTU)
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips required; EKG exam required during compliance

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years nursing experience in Intermediate Care or related units (observation, MS/Telemetry)
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required
• Wisconsin RN license required
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC) required; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) highly preferred
• EPIC charting experience required
• Must pass an EKG exam during compliance
• Must be located outside a 50-mile radius from the facility at the time of assignment start

Work Environment & Expectations

• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Eligible for up to 36 hours of low census unbillable hours, which may be scheduled in increments as low as 4 hours (not considered on-call)
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)
• Must be resilient, adaptable to change, able to work independently, and collaborate effectively with team and ancillary staff
• Positive attitude and flexibility required due to frequent changes during shifts
• During flu season, compliance with mandatory flu and COVID vaccination policies is required; unvaccinated travelers must wear masks at all times

Additional Notes

• Guaranteed hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed
• GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week
