O.R. Technician (CST) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Job Summary
A Surgical Technician with expertise in operating room technology who assists the Registered Professional Nurse by performing support activities in the operating room under direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving following aseptic principles.
- Set up sterile instrument tables and prepare supplies based on the type of operation.
- Assist in draping the patient and operative area.
- Anticipate and provide instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies to the surgeon.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse.
- Maintain aseptic technique and institute corrective measures if contamination occurs.
- Handle and dispose of specimens and soiled materials according to policy.
- Assist in applying dressings and securing drainage systems.
- Assist in patient transfer using approved devices.
- Assist the circulating nurse by assembling supplies and providing special equipment as needed.
- Position patients correctly and maintain a sterile environment.
- Observe and report any breaks in aseptic technique.
- Assist in medication preparation under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (excluding narcotics).
- Assist in room clean-up and preparation for subsequent procedures.
- Support operational needs such as transporting patients and updating preference cards.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
- Operating Room Technician Certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
- High school diploma or completion of a Certified CST Training Program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Work Environment
- Exposure to various clinical conditions, technologies, and environmental settings typical of an operating room.
- Per diem position with a maximum of 16 shifts over 13 weeks.
Additional Notes
- Must follow OSHA and PPE guidelines in the surgical suite.
- Medication labeling and handling must be performed carefully under nurse supervision.
- No dispensing of narcotics or controlled substances by the technician.
