Gaze across the desert and see snow-capped Mount Taylor 100 miles in the distance. The striking confluence of mountain ranges, vast river bordered by cottonwood forest, flocks of sandhill cranes flying overhead and countless colorful hot-air balloons that often fill the morning skies have long-drawn creative types and adventurers. Albuquerque's many highlights include vibrant galleries, world-class museums, farmers' markets and a thriving microbrewery scene. The historic district dubbed Old Town Plaza spans 10 blocks with fabulous restaurants, cafes, shops and the historic San Felipe de Neri Church, constructed in 1793.
