Job Summary
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process.
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care for assigned patients.
- Deliver care based on established standards and policies.
- Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care.
- Supervise care provided by LPNs, RNPs, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and significant others.
- Develop comprehensive, current care plans including physical, teaching, discharge, and psychosocial/spiritual needs.
- Provide direct patient care based on assessments and medical regimens.
- Oversee all aspects of patient care and supervise other nursing personnel.
- Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and treatments.
- Ensure timely reassessment and follow-up on significant changes in patient condition.
- Coordinate nursing interventions consistent with medical regimens.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish care priorities.
- Integrate age-specific care needs (pediatrics, geriatrics) into care plans.
- Accept accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care.
- Communicate effectively and manage stressful situations.
- Participate in orientation of nursing staff and assume charge responsibilities as delegated.
- Assist and relieve co-workers, work on other units as assigned.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses.
- Participate in meetings, committees, educational programs, research, and pilot projects.
- Pursue continuing professional growth and education.
- Engage in professional and community organizations.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Skills & Experience
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand, reach, and walk for prolonged periods.
- Ability to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items up to 10 pounds routinely.
- Able to lift up to 100 pounds when assisting patients.
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environmental conditions, bloodborne pathogens, physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks), and chemical hazards.
- Proficient in electronic health record systems and relevant healthcare/billing systems.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing.
