Unit Information

  • Experience Required: 2 years (1st timers accommodated)
  • Patient Diagnoses Include:
    • Chest pain
    • Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
    • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
    • Arrhythmias
    • Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
    • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbation
    • Pneumonia (PNA)
    • Hypertension (HTN)
    • Myocardial Infarction (MI)
    • Renal failure
    • Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Gastrointestinal (GI) bleed
    • Syncope
  • Special Procedures/Unit Details:
    • Pre/post cath lab
    • PPM/AICD
    • Ablations
    • Vascular surgeries (CEAs, fem-pops)
    • Titration of drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, Heparin)
    • Sheath pulling at bedside
  • Additional Notes:
    • Every other holiday
    • Potential for med-surg overflow (e.g., GI bleed, sepsis, CVA, COVID+)
    • May be pulled to all other inpatient units
    • No specific scheduling requests guaranteed

Required Certifications/Skills

  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • Telemetry
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • Skills:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • On-unit monitoring
    • CABG
    • Chest tube management
    • Post angiogram, MI, cardiac cath, and sheath removal
    • Port accessing
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
    • Starting IVs
    • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care/management
