Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 36 hours per week
- Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends; up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
- Call: No call required
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1-2
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in IV start, telemetry, ventilator management, Swan-Ganz catheter (SWANZ), conscious sedation, balloon pumps, and pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Nurse license valid in Ohio
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA only, Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA only, Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP) but not specified for this role
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption possible)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required including education verification
- Skills checklist required
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
Summary
This is a travel contract Registered Nurse position in a Cardiac ICU setting requiring at least 2 years of cardiac ICU experience, strong critical care skills including ventilator and invasive line management, and proficiency with EPIC. The role involves night shifts with some weekend work and floating within similar acuity units. Comprehensive background checks, health screenings, certifications, and competency exams are mandatory. Prior travel experience is preferred but not required.
