Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location
- Saint Louis, Missouri
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shifts, 3 shifts per week, each 12 hours (18:45 - 7:15)
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
- Contract Length: 26 weeks
- Work Setting: ICU and general floors in a teaching hospital environment
- Rotation: Candidates must be willing to float within scope to meet facility needs
- Holiday Work: Some holiday shifts required
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Radius Rule: Candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off allowed
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Missouri (pending license accepted but must be approved prior to start)
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Patient Care: Ability to care for and treat patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases
- Mechanical Ventilation: Comfortable managing mechanically ventilated patients, including weaning
- Airway Management: Endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal and oral airway suctioning and placement, sputum specimen collection, tracheostomy suctioning
- Medication Administration: Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (INo), Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Xopenex
- Medication Delivery Systems: Aerosol setup for mask and trach, metered dose inhaler
- Nebulizer Use: Handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic nebulizers
- Oxygen Therapy: High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Ventilator Management: BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms
- Diagnostic Skills: Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) interpretation
- Precepting: May be asked to precept respiratory therapy students occasionally

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, education verification, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest degree related to profession required before start
- Professional license primary source verification required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes or acceptable alternatives
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Facility-specific documents to be signed prior to start, including HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and regulatory compliance education
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Employment application and professional references required (two professional references preferred within last year)
- Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams required, including medication/pharmacology competency and possibly dysrhythmia/EKG competency if applicable
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to work in a fast-paced, large hospital campus with the ability to walk long distances
- Occasional precepting of respiratory therapy students may be required
- No block scheduling accommodations; must be flexible with weekend rotations and holiday shifts
- Pending licenses accepted, but must be approved prior to start
- Returning candidates with prior background or license hits may require additional approvals
