Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a strong Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) background. Experience with transplant, renal, or high-acuity medical patients is preferred.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Strong Stepdown/PCU background
- Experience with transplant, renal, or high-acuity medical patients preferred
Required Certifications
- Active Ohio RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Skills & Competencies
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Advanced respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
- IV insulin protocols and insulin drips
- Cardiac and vasoactive drips (including titration)
- Central line and PICC management
- Blood product administration
- Renal and liver transplant care
- Post-procedure recovery (kidney biopsy, paracentesis)
Additional Job Details
- EPIC charting system experience required
- Pyxis medication system experience required
- Call required
- Float required within the organization
- Weekend coverage every other or every third weekend
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Fingerprinting must be completed and approved prior to start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- References: 2 professional references required, including at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership role
Competency Exams and Training
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions apply for certain units and remote positions)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment (certification must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)
Work Environment and Expectations
- Float within the organization as needed
- Call and weekend coverage required
- Use of EPIC and Pyxis medication systems
- Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training and acknowledgment forms
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Advanced respiratory support skills (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
- Proficient in IV insulin protocols and insulin drips
- Experience with cardiac drips, vasoactive drips, and titration of vasoactive drips
- Central line and PICC management expertise
- Renal and liver transplant care experience
- Skilled in post-procedure recovery care (e.g., kidney biopsy, paracentesis)
