Registered Nurse - Telemetry Unit

Location: Hazard, Kentucky

Job Description

• Work with Medical-Surgical (MS), Telemetry (Tele), and observation patients.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:6 or 1:7.
• Float within scope of practice as needed.
• Every other weekend shift required.
• Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated.
• Schedule follows a 36/48 hour pattern over a two-week pay period.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
• Must reside within 75 miles of the facility to be considered.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
• Telemetry experience within the last year, with a minimum of 1 year of telemetry experience.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI)
• ACLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI)
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RN specialties except OR and Psych)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all units except Psych, OR, Rehab, and true Med Surg)
• Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Health & Background Requirements

• Annual physical exam or physician’s note stating clearance to work without restrictions.
• Negative TB test via QuantiFERON blood test within one year prior to start (T-Spot/PPD not accepted).
• Proof of immunizations or titers for:

  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Td not accepted)
• Drug testing within 30 days of start using a specific 9-panel bundle (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone.
• Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
• Background checks including national criminal search, sex offender registry, fugitive database, county searches for last 7 years, and federal exclusions lists.
• Employment and work history verification covering 7 years.
• Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor or higher).

Additional Information

• Float assignments required within scope of practice.
• Must be able to work every other weekend.
• Candidates must complete all required documentation and verifications prior to start.
• PAPRs (Powered Air Purifying Respirators) cannot be accommodated for fit testing.
• Religious or medical exemptions for mask fit testing and flu vaccine can be reviewed onsite.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with telemetry and medical-surgical patients, able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, and meeting comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
