Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. This is a travel/contract position in Ohio.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for PACU; required for PICU and Pediatric Stepdown (not applicable here).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Not required for MS/Tele.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required only for ER (not applicable).
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required for MS/Tele.
- State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start. License must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Fingerprints must be completed under nursing-specific code (4723.09). Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually. PAPRs not approved for facial hair failure unless approved exemption submitted.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if negative/equivocal.
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions must be approved).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.
Orientation and Training
- Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be done on a phone.
- Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required for all bedside RNs except OR RNs. Passing scores: 90% for medication, 80% for ECG. Retake opportunities provided if needed.
- SafeMedicate prep materials provided for exam preparation.
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
Documentation and History
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area to assignment.
- Two professional references required from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
- Skills checklist required annually.
Additional Notes
- Candidates with gaps in employment greater than 30-40 days may need to update physical and eye exams.
- Candidates must have matching names on RN license, driver’s license, and work order documents or be in the process of updating.
- Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start, but results must be received before contract extension.
- Facility requires latex allergy notification if applicable.
