Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Tyler, Texas

Job Details

  • Unit Beds: 36
  • Float Requirement: Must float to units of equal or lesser acuity
  • Weekend Shifts: Half of scheduled shifts

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (1st time travelers not accepted)

Certifications Required

  • Mandatory: BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Preferred: NIH Stroke Certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • As Applicable: PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Skills Required

  • Med/Surg, MS/Telemetry
  • Colostomy care, feeding tube management
  • Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • Accessing ports, blood product administration
  • Central line blood draw, peripheral line management, phlebotomy
  • PICC line management, starting IVs, Heparin administration
  • PCA management
  • Care for spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma
  • Total joint replacements, surgical drains
  • HFNC, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Tracheostomy management, wound care

Documentation System

  • Proficiency with EPIC required

Local Traveler Restriction

  • Candidates residing in certain nearby counties are not eligible (specific counties excluded)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Education verification (highest level)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Employment application and work history verification (7 years)
  • References: Professional references required internally (not for clearance)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually
  • Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire if positive results, renewed annually
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters required if negative/equivocal)
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required (no declinations accepted)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Color blind testing (online)
  • Competency exams as applicable (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Annual core testing for subcontractors

Additional Notes

  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification required
  • Photo headshot required for badge
  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements only (not applicable here)

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with orthopedic and med/surg skills who meet the certification and health requirements and have prior travel experience.
