Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract

Location: Nashua, New Hampshire
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Position Details

  • Shift: 5x8 Night shifts, Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Work Setting: Inpatient, Community Hospital
  • Call Required: Yes
  • Float to ASC: Required
  • Patient Age Group: Adults & Adolescents (experience required), Pediatrics (experience preferred)
  • Surgical Specialties: General, GYN, Urology, Colorectal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Neuro, Plastics, Vascular, Podiatry, Breast, ENT
  • Surgery Cases: General, Ortho, Ortho/Total Joints, Urology, Endo/Laparoscopic, Vascular, Neuro, Gyn, Neuro/Spine, Podiatry, ENT
  • Labor and Delivery Cases: Abdominal hysterectomy, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Robotic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal hysterectomy

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • BLS (AHA Provider only)
  • NBSTSA Certification
  • New Hampshire State License (copy required)
  • ACLS (AHA Provider only) - check unit description for requirement
  • PALS (AHA Provider only) - check unit description for requirement
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - check unit description for requirement
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - check unit description for requirement
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - preferred, check unit description
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (OSHA education documentation)
  • State License Verification and Copy (for states that are not paperless)

Skills and Competencies

  • Scrubbing experience required
  • General skills: Scrub, Aseptic Technique
  • Preferred skills: Sterilization, Epic charting experience
  • Experience with surgical technologies preferred: DaVinci XI, Cori, MAKO
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for certain units
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 48 hours of contract signing for specific units
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required (internal purposes)
  • Competency Exam required (internal purposes)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start including:
    • Social Security Verification
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal Search
    • FACIS L3
    • Education Verification
    • Criminal county/state searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police Search required)
    • BEAS State Registry Results (NH placements only)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (7-day grace period allowed)
  • Physical Exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Fit Mask Test (annual) required for all clinical candidates (N95 or equivalent masks)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance required for all clinical travelers
  • Two current professional references within last 3 years (one must be from a supervisor)
  • Employment Application and Skills Checklist required
  • Internal Evaluation required annually for travelers with Aya or agency for 1+ year

Immunization and Health Requirements

  • Flu Seasonal Vaccination required annually (Oct 31 - Apr 1) or approved exemption
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years required (titers not accepted) or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year prior to start (True 2-Step PPD, Qgold, or Tspot)
  • TB Questionnaire required for all travelers
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declinations accepted with waiver)
    • Varicella (history of disease NOT accepted)
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Travelers who have ever been employed by any facility associated with this health system are not eligible regardless of separation length.
  • Facility requires completion of SSA release and state-specific background authorizations.
  • Pass/Fail Dysrhythmia EKG exam is time-sensitive and required for specific units.
  • Religious and medical exemption forms are required for flu and Tdap vaccines if applicable.
  • Passport-style photo required for badge.
  • Proof of auto insurance required for Home Health and Hospice Care candidates.

This position offers a diverse surgical caseload in a community hospital setting with a focus on inpatient care during night shifts. It is suitable for surgical technologists with at least 2 years of experience who hold the required certifications and licenses, and who are comfortable with call responsibilities and floating to ambulatory surgery centers.
