Registered Nurse (Med Surg Neuro RN) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Decatur, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift: Nights (4x12 or 3x12 shifts; 1800-0630)
Average Daily Census: 32 patients
Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Med/Surg)
First-timers: Not accepted
Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
License: Must have an active Illinois nursing license
On-call: Not required
Floating: Will float as needed within scope
Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions
Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Certifications

BLS (Basic Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty

Required Skills and Experience

Work Setting: Med/Surg experience required
Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry (remote monitoring), use of Rapid Response Teams
Gastrointestinal Care: Colostomy care, feeding tube care and management
IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
Medications: Heparin, insulin, PCA (patient-controlled analgesia)
Neurological/Psychiatric: CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury
Surgical: Experience with surgical drains
Respiratory: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy management
Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac, continuous bladder irrigation
Electronic Health Record: Cerner experience required
Preferred: Teaching hospital experience, Level II trauma experience

Education verification (degree or transcript)
State-specific criminal and offender registry searches (Illinois)
Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
Badge photo required before start
References: 2 professional references required

Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting in Illinois if not holding an IL license
