Job Opportunity: Cytotechnologist (Cyto Tech) - Laboratory Specialty
Location: Irvine, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in an anatomic pathology laboratory with an oncology focus, but diagnostics cover all patient types (mainly adults/geriatrics).
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- No float, call, or weekend shifts required; however, staying late for delayed procedures is occasionally necessary.
- EPIC documentation experience required.
- Scrubs: Navy blue or dark grey (not provided).
- 24 hours of unit orientation required.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years required, 5 years preferred. Use 5 years as the required experience.
- Skills/Experience Required:
- ROSE for Thyroid FNAs
- EBUS & EUS
- Inpatient and outpatient lab procedures
- Ultrasound, Ascitic Fluid, Esophageal, Gastric, Spinal, Bronchial, Urine specimen handling
- Assist with collection, making smears, preliminary diagnosis, staining, on-site procedures, specimen labeling/identification, and OR settings
- Preferred Skills: ThinPrep, GMS, PAP
Certifications Required
- ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification
- California State License (must be current at time of application)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Provider only (required based on unit/specialty)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Provider only (required based on unit/specialty)
- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) if applicable
- Other certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including Social Security Trace, Education Verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification and diploma/transcripts
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination series including booster or approved medical/religious exemptions
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
- Respirator clearance and fit testing as applicable
- Annual competency exams and skills checklists
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
- Patient population primarily adults and geriatrics.
- No weekend or call shifts, but occasional extended hours may be necessary.
