Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Case Manager role in an acute care facility. This is a travel/contract position requiring a seasoned traveler with hospital experience. Behavioral health experience does not apply.

Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Acute Care Case Management/Discharge Planning
• Must have hospital experience (behavioral health experience not applicable)
• Prior travel experience required (first-time travelers not accepted)

Licensure

• California state nursing license required
• Pending license accepted only if licensed by start date

Work Schedule

• Floating: No floating required
• Weekend shifts: Every other weekend to meet department needs
• Ratios: Day shift 1:25, Weekend 1:45
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days

Facility Type

• Acute Care Facility
• Dress code: Business attire or scrubs

Certifications (Must be current and valid)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
• Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
• IV Certification (if applicable)
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
• NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) (if applicable)
• State License verification and NURSYS verification required

Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Competency Exams as required by specialty
• Color Blind Testing (if required by unit)
• Specialty-specific competency exams (e.g., Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment for L&D RNs)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Fit Mask test (annual, travel only)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer or declination
• Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (special rules for Alaska placements)
• Varicella vaccination or positive titer or declination
• 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
• COVID vaccine or declination
• Respiratory Safety Clearance (annual for travel)

Background & Compliance

• Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Education verification required for all candidates
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
• Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in comparable specialty within last 3 years
• Skills checklist updated annually (if applicable)
• State-specific background checks and registry searches as required (e.g., Washington state requirements)

Training & Modules

• Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:

  • Core modules by profession and region
  • Specialty-specific modules (ER, ICU, L&D, etc.)
  • Annual regulatory requirements
  • Trauma-informed care (effective 12/22/2025 for new/extended placements)
• Epic training modules completion required for certain regions and specialties

• Photo for badge required (passport style with neutral background)
• No floating expectation
• Must be a seasoned traveler; first-time travelers will not be considered

This position is ideal for experienced acute care case management nurses who are licensed in California and have prior travel experience. The role requires compliance with extensive health, safety, and training requirements to ensure readiness for the acute care environment.
