Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Acute care nursing position in Medical/Surgical Overflow area
- Patient care includes medical/surgical, telemetry, or IMC level of care
- Must be able to interpret cardiac rhythms and conduct NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments
- Experience with antiarrhythmia drips (without titration) required
- Must float within skillset when not needed on home unit
- No block scheduling
- Weekends and every other holiday required; must be available to work 2 of 3 winter holidays
- Ratios approximately 1:4-5+
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals accepted
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, IMC, Adult Critical Care, ED, PCU, L&D, Outpatient Surgery. Certificates expiring within a month of start require renewal confirmation.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all RNs and many tech roles. Certificates expiring within a month of start require renewal confirmation.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for adult critical care specialties, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab units. Must be updated annually.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for Pediatric ER and Pediatric Acute Care.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, Mother Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery.
- Chemotherapy Certification: Required for adult and pediatric chemo nurses (ONS/ONCC for adults, APHON for pediatrics).
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs. Online portion must be completed by hire date; in-person portion within 14 days of start.
- Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and Basic EKG exams required for clinical staff in relevant units. Candidates have 3 attempts to pass.
- Competency Exams: Medication, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start.
- Other Certifications: Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) for Mother-Baby and L&D RNs as applicable.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years acute care experience
- Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and perform NIHSS assessments
- Experience with medical/surgical, telemetry, and IMC level patients
- Ability to float within skillset
- Must be able to work every other weekend and holidays as scheduled
Work Schedule
- Every other weekend required
- Must work 2 of 3 winter holidays
- No block scheduling
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches. No open cases allowed.
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared for essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements
- Immunizations and titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as applicable
- Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
- Licenses: Valid RN license with legal name matching documentation; NURSYS verification as applicable
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date for New Jersey candidates
- Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually
Additional Notes
- Facility requires completion of floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer
- Candidates must complete annual education sign-offs and facility-specific orientation materials prior to start
- Candidates with a history of positive TB require additional medical clearance and documentation
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific CEU requirements (e.g., Stroke, Trauma, Med Surg)
- Candidates must complete OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training
- Candidates must complete all required competency and pass/fail testing within specified timeframes
