Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (NICU)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Schedule: Rotation every other weekend or every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Hours per Week: 48

Job Description

• Provide respiratory care in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting.
• Required skills include adult critical care, emergency department support, patient transports, direct intubation and extubation, nasal airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care, management of ARDS, aspiration, bronchoscopy, COVID-19 related respiratory care, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, medication administration, aerosol mask and nebulizer treatments, oxygen therapy, pulmonary function testing, and ventilator management.
• Experience with neonatal and pediatric equipment and procedures is preferred but not mandatory.
• Use of Epic electronic health record system is required.
• Uniform: Ceil blue scrubs.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 1 year of recent Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• Background check within 12 months including SSN trace, 7-year county residence/work history, nationwide search, and sex offender search.
• State-specific caregiver screening and forms required for Wisconsin.
• Physical exam within 1 year indicating good health.
• Negative drug screen within 12 months of start.
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement during flu season).
  • TB test (PPD, Qgold, or TSPOT) within 12 months; chest x-ray within 5 years if prior positive PPD.
  • COVID vaccine series preferred but not mandatory.
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination proof as per standard requirements.
  • Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination (required for new candidates).
• OSHA Respirator Clearance required prior to start to enable onsite fit testing.
• Fit testing for respirators will be completed onsite during orientation week; candidate must provide fit test record to agency within two weeks of start.
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and agreements prior to start.
• Post-start orientation checklists must be completed during orientation and returned within the first week.
• Skills checklist required.

• Candidates will be fit tested onsite during orientation.
• Candidates must complete all required compliance modules assigned based on their unit.
• Candidates must sign confidentiality, security agreements, and standards of ethical conduct prior to start.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred.
• Epic experience is mandatory.
• This position involves working in a critical care environment with exposure to complex respiratory cases including COVID-19 patients.
