Job Opportunity: Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer

Location: Prestonsburg, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4x10 hours) from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required.
  • Equipment used: Epiq ultrasound system.
  • Schedule typically follows a 36/48 hour rotation over a two-week pay period; ratios may fluctuate based on census and call-ins.
  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
  • Candidates must reside within 75 miles of the facility.
  • Assignment confirmation must be signed within 24 hours of offer acceptance.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer, including experience within the last year.
  • ARDMS certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA provider/instructor/RQI.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA (required for all RNs except Psych and certain Med/Surg units; may be relevant depending on role).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required for ER (not specifically required here).
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required for ER (not specifically required here).
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all units except Psych, OR, Rehab, and true Med Surg).
  • Core Competency Parts I, II, and III.
  • National certification verification prior to start and upon expiration.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment.

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Annual physical exam or physician statement within 1 year prior to start, indicating clearance to work without restrictions.
  • Fit mask test to be completed onsite; PAPRs not accommodated if facial hair present.
  • Valid Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Td not accepted; declinations accepted if within 1 year of start).
  • Negative TB test (Qgold) within 1 year of start, renewed annually; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required if positive TB history.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccinations or positive titer).
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declination must be within 1 year of start).
  • Varicella immunity proof (2 vaccinations or positive titer).
  • Drug testing through a specific 9-panel bundle (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone within 30 days of start; annual updates required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.

Background & Verification

  • Comprehensive background check including national criminal search, sex offender registry, fugitive database, violent offender checks, county searches for last 7 years, and federal exclusions.
  • Education verification.
  • Employment application and resume with education and work history.
  • Work history verification covering 7 years, preferably through a third-party vendor; attestation letters acceptable if verification attempts are exhausted.
  • Two professional references within 1 year of start date required; one must be from a supervisor or higher.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Signed and dated specialty job description, renewed annually.
  • Completion of employee health attestation and related forms prior to compliance deadline.
  • Review and acknowledgment of fit test and badge instructions.
  • Submission of screenshots proving completion of required health assessments and vaccinations via designated employee health portal.
  • Compliance with state-specific registry checks (e.g., Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry) within 30 days prior to start, with annual updates.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must submit an unexpired government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
  • Candidates should not be submitted to more than one job at a time.
  • Facility accommodates candidates with latex allergies but requires notification prior to start.
  • Religious or medical exemptions for mask fit testing and flu vaccination must be submitted and approved prior to or on day one of employment.
