Job Details

  • Schedule:
    • 50% of holidays and weekends
    • Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2
  • Float Assignments: ICU and Medical-Surgical units
  • Experience: 1 year experience acceptable
  • Preferred Experience: ICU experience with strong Neuro checklist; Stroke experience required
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS: Required for ICU and critical care areas including Cath Lab, CCU, CVICU, Endo/GI, ER, GI Lab, ICU, Interventional Radiology, L&D, MICU, Neuro ICU, PACU, SICU, Tele.
  • BLS: Required for all RNs.
  • CPI: Required for Psych/Behavioral Health RNs; preferred for others. Onsite course available if not obtained prior to start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required for Neuro ICU and Med Surg Neuro.
  • Other Certifications: May be required depending on specialty (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM).
  • Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable.

Experience & Skills

  • ICU experience with strong neurological skills and stroke care required.
  • Ability to float between ICU and Med Surg units.
  • Patient ratio of 1:2.

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background Check:
    • 7-year background check required within 60 days of start.
    • Must include alias/all names search, counties lived/worked/school, national federal, sex offender, social security trace, FACIS III/OFAC.
    • International background checks required if candidate traveled outside the USA in last 7 years.
  • State-Specific Checks: Missouri FCSR and EDL searches required within 60 days.
  • Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
    • Fit mask test within 1 year (not required for some tech roles).
    • Immunizations/vaccinations including:
      • Tdap (within 10 years or approved exemption)
      • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (updated annually)
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
      • Hepatitis B series or titer (declinations not accepted for new candidates)
      • Varicella immunity or vaccination
      • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccine no longer required as of 11/21/2023.

Documentation & Verification

  • Licenses:
    • State license primary source verification within 60 days of start.
    • NURSYS verification required within 60 days.
  • References: Two professional references within last 3 years required (non-clinical roles).
  • Resume: Must include 7 years of employment history with no gaps over 30 days; education details; contact info.
  • Photo: Forward-facing, head and shoulders, neutral background photo required for new candidates.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must initiate background checks, health screenings, and required forms within 48 hours of signing.
  • Some certifications and documentation are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to or shortly after start date.
  • Facility-specific forms and agreements must be signed before starting.
  • Candidates with positive TB must provide proof of treatment or complete facility-specific recommendations.
  • Candidates unable to pass fit mask testing must notify supervisor and may have restrictions on COVID patient care.

I worked in Same Day Surgery. The PACU and OR staff were great to work with. The supervisor/manager was very easy to approach and talk with.
