Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Lincoln, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in Maine or compact license accepted
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred
- Current, unexpired immunizations including:
- Varicella (2 doses or titer)
- Hepatitis B (3 doses or titer or declination accepted)
- MMR (2 doses or titer)
- Tdap
- PPD (2-step or titer within past 12 months)
- Flu shot required during flu season
- BSN preferred
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of nursing assessment and skills for all age groups
Job Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments
- Complete discharge assessments and plans, ensuring patient/family understanding
- Develop and implement patient care plans based on needs and physician orders
- Administer medications correctly, utilizing the five rights and evaluating patient response
- Communicate patient care activities and status updates to healthcare team members
- Document patient care activities according to hospital policies and standards
- Assist with patient charges and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding
- Maintain a safe physical environment for patients and staff
- Participate in hospital-wide and department-specific quality improvement initiatives
- Engage in emergency/disaster preparedness planning, drills, and response as needed
- Provide patient and family education as indicated
- Perform follow-up calls to patients
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Requires standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, reaching, balance
- Lifting and pushing patients in wheelchairs and stretchers; lifting up to 30 lbs
- Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients
- Possible exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and toxic chemicals

- Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts within a 12-week period
