ER RN – Nights – Float to Med Surg

Overview

• Role: ER RN
• Department: ER (Emergency Room)
• Float scope: Float to Med Surg when there are no ER patients
• Location: Mount Ayr, Iowa
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 3x12s, 7:00 pm to 7:00 am
• Hours: 36 per week
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Opening: 1

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of experience
• ACLS
• BLS
• Previous travel experience with at least 2 assignments
• Ability to learn EMR

Preferred Qualifications

• PALS
• TNCC

Unit Details

• 4-bay ER
• 1–2 beds/trauma bays; bay 3 is peds and well women/psych
• Fast Track: Room 4
• Separate triage area: No
• Separate psych/seclusion room: Room 3
• Security: None; 911 response
• Average daily volume: 6–7 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3–4
• Common diagnoses include general ER, urgent care, cardiac, traumas, MI, and strokes
• Critical care drips may be seen
• RN monitors telemetry; no monitor techs
• RT is on site 8:30 am–4:30 pm Monday–Friday
• X-ray is in the same hallway; lab and x-ray are on call nights and weekends with a 30-minute response
• RNs draw labs, EKGs, and ABGs
• Some nurses are PICC/Midline and US-guided IV trained

Scheduling and Orientation

• Scheduling is handled by the Director of Nursing on a digital platform
• Bedside report is expected at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm
• Day 1 includes HR and department orientation plus EMR training
• Day 2 is a full shift with a preceptor
• 4 weeks of day shift orientation is discussed in interview

Dress Code

• Dark-colored scrubs: black pants, navy, or maroon
