Registered Nurse – Orthopedic

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit Overview

• Orthopedic unit with 43 all-private rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shifts: 1:4-5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-6
• Patient population includes postoperative orthopedic cases, trauma with fractures, and a wide variety of medical-surgical diagnoses
• Primary charge RN present on each shift; 24/7 house supervisor coverage
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) support nursing with ratios of 1:7-8
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips themselves
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and heated high flow; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• Travel RNs may float occasionally to similar MedSurg floors

Scheduling & Orientation

• 12-hour night shifts for travel staff
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Fri/Sat night shifts)
• No call or standby requirement
• Two-unit specific orientation sessions required
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has started
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 1-2 years clinical experience preferred, with skills in postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed; professional appearance required; tattoos and piercings must be covered
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
