ICU Charge Float Pool - Denver/Zone 3 (Centennial, Colorado)
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit & Role
- Charge ICU Float Pool covering a combination of ICUs: MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, etc.
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:1-2 depending on acuity; may flex up to 1:3
- High acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) require 1:1 ratio
- Charge Nurse is designated on each unit; typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary (more common on night shift)
Floating & Location
- Travelers are expected to float throughout the entire Zone 3, which covers a 60-mile radius from the zone’s city center
- Floating may include ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and Med-Surg Tele units
- May be asked to float to sister facilities within the Denver region
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- TNCC
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience and prior Charge Nurse experience required
- Prefer candidates with prior travel experience
- If a first-time traveler, must have 3+ years ICU experience and Epic experience
Skills & Responsibilities
- Must be comfortable titrating all critical drips, including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, insulin, and more
- Charge Nurse may respond to Codes and Rapid Responses throughout the hospital
- No nurse aides on unit except for sitter needs
- RNs expected to assist with respiratory troubleshooting and management; designated RT available but may not be on unit 24/7
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips (no telemetry techs)
Common Patient Types
- General combination ICU patients across multiple ICU specialties
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time
- Travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent scheduling
- 6-9 weekend shifts required in a 6-week schedule
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
- Rare call or standby requirements for low census
Orientation
- 1-2 days unit/department-specific orientation with a preceptor
- Week of orientation requires clinician to be in-state (modules may be completed remotely)

- Any scrub color allowed
