Job Overview
- Position: Experienced ER Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Silverdale, Washington
- Facility Type: ER/Trauma Center
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Experience Required: Minimum 1-2 years in a larger trauma setting
- Licenses/Certifications Required:
- Active Washington RN License or Compact License
- BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC
- NIHSS preferred
Unit Details
- ER Beds: 56 beds, expandable to 60-70 with hall beds
- Fast Track: 6 beds
- Separate Triage Area: Yes, 5 beds; travelers may be assigned triage after testing
- Holding Area: 18 beds within ED for inpatient holds; ER RNs manage their own holds
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: Locked hall with 6 private treatment rooms
- Security: In-house security present
- Patient Volume: Approximately 170-200 patients per day
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:3, up to 1:4 for low acuity patients
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Cardiac issues
- Stroke
- Sepsis
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Altered Mental Status (AMS)
- Respiratory conditions
- Abdominal pain
- Mental health cases
Team & Support Staff
- ED Physicians and Mid-Level Providers on site
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor available
- Support staff includes ED Techs, CNAs, and inpatient staff providing 1:1 sitters as needed
Equipment & Technology
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Epic
- Respiratory Therapy: RT manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen; RTs perform ABGs
- ED Techs perform EKGs
- Telemetry and Monitor Techs present; RNs interpret cardiac strips
- Radiology adjacent to ED; transport assists with patient movement
- Phlebotomy: Primarily nurse or ED Tech draws; lab assists with difficult draws
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shifts: Based on department needs; traveler schedules accommodated within existing patterns
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work holidays in November/December; manager may consider 1 of 3 holidays off if unit demands allow
- Call/Standby: None required; extra shifts available but not mandatory
- Floating: No floating required
- Orientation:
- Day 1: Compliance, policies, education (8-10 hours)
- Day 2: Department-specific orientation (12 hours)
- Dress Code: Any professional scrub colors
Additional Notes
- Orientation/education hours are not guaranteed during the first 2 weeks; expect 25+ hours
- No Return to Origin (RTO) will be considered during the first full week of assignment
- Manager cannot accommodate duplicate schedules/shifts for DUO submissions
- Shift example: 3p-3a available

Pros
I was on a med onc unit so might be different culture on each unit. Travel friendly. Staff is great. Ratios were 1-5/6. Schedule was flexible. Cost of living depending on neighborhood was also good.
