Job Description

A hospital in California is seeking an experienced OR RN for a travel assignment.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of OR nursing experience (highest required years of experience)
• Active California RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• COVID-19 vaccination required (with certification)

Work Environment & Details

• Unit: Operating Room (OR)
• Number of beds: 10 suites (4 suites equipped for heart cases)
• Case volume: 25-45 cases per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner Surginet
• Reporting structure: Report to Clinical Supervisor; OR Director and OR Manager present
• Support staff: OR Techs available
• Call requirements:

  • 1-2 weeknights per week
  • Weekend call approximately once per month (from end of shift Friday through 6:30 am Monday)
• Scrubs provided by hospital
• Equipment: Phillips telemetry, ventilators available
• Respiratory Therapist (RT) available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Shifts: 8-hour (6:30 am - 3 pm), 10-hour, and 12-hour shifts; mid shifts start at 9 am or 10:45 am
• Orientation: 1 shift with preceptor on floor-specific orientation
• Floating: Not applicable

Patient Population & Case Types

• All types of cases except transplant
• Common cases include:

  • General surgery
  • Vascular
  • Thoracic
  • Neurosurgery
  • ENT
  • Some plastics
  • Heavy orthopedics and sports medicine
• Strong experience required with total joints, general surgery, vascular, and spine cases

Additional Notes

• Weekend and holiday coverage is managed by call
• 10-hour shifts with varied start times, call included every other weekend (EOW)
