Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Number of Beds: 20
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 8-10 RNs, 1-3 LNAs, sitter PRN
    • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 8-10 RNs, 1-3 LNAs, sitter PRN
  • Patient Ratios (based on acuity):
    • ECMO: 2:1
    • Post open heart surgery: 1:1
    • Critical ICU/devices patients: 1:1
    • Typical ICU assignment: 1:2
    • Stepdown: 1:3-4
  • Patient Population: Mixed medical and surgical ICU
  • Equipment Used:
    • IV pumps, telemetry monitors
    • Hoyer/stand lifts
    • Impella, IABP, CRRT (NxStage)
    • Bladder scanner, Bair hugger
    • Rapid transfuser, Blanketrol (warming/cooling)
    • Chest tubes, vein finder
    • Sorin retransfuser (post cardiac surgery)
    • Ventilator, high flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Sunrise

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Telemetry experience

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Pericardiocentesis with drains left in place post-procedure
  • Thoracentesis
  • Central line insertion
  • Arterial line insertion
  • Chest tube insertion
  • Intubation
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), cardioversion, transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE)
  • Transvenous pacing wire insertion

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Shift: Not specified
  • Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
  • On-call: No call required
  • Floating Areas: Progressive Care Unit
  • Dress Code: Scrubs (color/attire not specified)

Unit was traveler friendly, staff was very nice and welcoming, felt supported, nice area of the country for exploring

Cons

Nurses do all their own vitals (not sure how that’s even possible on dayshift), limited resources, morale was low due to recent buyout by HCA
