Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours upon request)
- Overtime: Applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
- Float Requirement:
- Primary unit with potential float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away)
- 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
- Mid-shift float possible within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
- Weekend/Holiday Requirement:
- Work three weekends every six weeks
- Work every other holiday
- On Call/Call Back: Not required
- Patient Population:
- Cardiac (chest pain, stress test/Lexiscan, post cath without intervention)
- CVA/TIA, hypotension, syncope/dizziness, shortness of breath
- Post-surgical (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, stones)
- GI/Urology pre/post procedure, acute kidney injury, cellulitis, detox/CIWA
- Unit Info:
- 23 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Days (7 AM–3 PM): 1:4-5
- Evenings (3 PM–7 PM): 1:5-6
- Nights (7 PM–7 AM): 1:6-7
- Charge nurse takes patient assignments on all shifts
- Work Environment:
- Welcoming to travelers with strong teamwork
- Low turnover units managed by experienced leadership
- Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs only; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or competing agency logos
- Attendance Policy: Three call-ins may result in termination
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Current active compact Registered Nurse license
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Skills:
- Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class required)
- Cardiac cath recovery care (femoral/TR bands)
- Post-surgical care (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, stones)
- Neurological assessments including NIHSS and dysphagia screening
- Initiate and titrate drips (Heparin, Insulin)
- Indwelling drain management
- Straight catheter and Foley care
- NG tube insertion
- Blood administration and documentation
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Additional Notes
- No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly with weekly starts in June
- GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours otherwise except when unit is closed for holidays
