Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift: 12-hour Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
Float Requirement: First to float within skillset; may float between nearby campuses (8-11 miles apart) with 2-hour notice
On Call/Call Back: Not required
Patient Population: Medical-Surgical patients including post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, CHF
Unit Size: 41 beds
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:6-7
Unit Strengths: Experienced leadership and CNA support
Scrubs: No competing health system or agency logos allowed
Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires
COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Indiana
Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
One completed travel assignment
Trauma experience
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Current American Heart Association BLS certification
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Recent experience with Epic electronic health record system (checkoff class will be required)

Skills and Competencies

Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Experience with remote telemetry monitoring
Proficient in care involving chest tubes, NG/PEG tubes, straight catheters/Foleys, ostomies
Skilled in Heparin drips, blood/blood product administration, tracheostomy care, and PCA management
Resilient, adaptable to change, and socially engaged

Additional Information

Orientation: Bi-weekly, start date 8/10
GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
Attendance: Three call-ins may result in termination
