• Shift: 5x8 (40 hours per week), weekends and holidays per unit rotation

Job Summary

Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative care for patients undergoing cardiac and cardiothoracic surgeries. Responsibilities include preoperative assessment, intraoperative nursing as a circulating nurse, surgical support, patient safety, postoperative monitoring, and collaboration with the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients preoperatively, verify surgical consent and medical history
• Provide intraoperative nursing care during cardiac surgeries
• Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and surgical technologists
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields and cardiac surgical instruments
• Handle specialized cardiac equipment (e.g., heart-lung machines, pacing wires, invasive monitors)
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, AORN standards, and infection control protocols
• Conduct surgical time-outs and follow Universal Precautions
• Document perioperative nursing care accurately and timely
• Participate in patient handoff to ICU or recovery units with detailed clinical reports
• Monitor for postoperative complications such as bleeding, arrhythmias, and hemodynamic instability
• Educate patients and families about procedures and recovery
• Engage in continuing education and cardiac surgery competency training
• Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Valve repair and replacement
• Aortic aneurysm repair

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Dakota
• Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Experience in an inpatient setting
• Recent travel experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
