Schedule

• Start date: 8/3
• Work schedule: 2 8s and 2 10s per week
• PACU start times fluctuate between 0730-0830 Monday through Friday
• Thursdays always start at 0830

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience working with Pediatric patients
• PACU - Post Anesthesia Care experience within the last year
• 1 year of PACU - Post Anesthesia Care experience
• Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care experience

Orientation

• 1 day in PACU, including Stepdown

Patient Population / Case Mix

• Pediatric PACU sees everything
• Short procedures include EGDs, BMTTs, MRIs, T&As, and DLBs
• Bigger cases include Pectus Excavatum Repair, Spinal Fusions, Cardiac Caths, EVDs, Breast, Reductions, and Ortho

Skills / Clinical Focus

• Arterial lines
• Trachs with home vents
• Precedex drips
• Chest tubes
• Drains
• Foleys
• Airway management
• Modified Aldrete Score
• Assessment/vitals
• Medication administration
• Discharge teaching

Phase Expectations

• Phase 1: 1:1 patient care; monitor every 15 minutes
• Phase 2: 1:1 or 1 RN to 4 patients in Stepdown; monitor at least every hour and prepare for discharge

Communication / Workflow

• Anesthesiologists manage medication orders, signouts, and assist with stats
• Surgeons manage discharge orders and instructions, wound issues, and radiology orders
