Travel RN - ACCU (Acute Care Critical Unit)

Job Overview

Seeking a travel Registered Nurse (RN) with acute care critical unit experience to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for critically ill patients, with responsibilities spanning multiple units including ICU, ED, PACU, and intermediate care units.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients on admission and reassess regularly, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Develop, review, and update individualized plans of care based on comprehensive data.
• Administer medications (oral, topical, parenteral) following the 7 rights and monitor effectiveness and side effects.
• Perform treatments and procedures adhering to hospital policies, sterile techniques, and patient privacy standards.
• Document patient care, responses, pain management, discharge planning, and education accurately and legibly.
• Educate patients and families based on assessed needs.
• Interpret diagnostic data and communicate changes in patient condition promptly using SBAR communication.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and follow national patient safety goals.
• Manage patients in restraints per policy and follow infection control and blood transfusion protocols.
• Understand and activate disaster plans and rapid response teams as needed.
• Follow hospital policies on patient identification, hand hygiene, core measures, and vaccine control.
• Use specialized equipment such as pressure monitors, bedside cardiac monitors, and specialty beds.
• Recognize cardiac dysrhythmias and manage pain, sedation, and early mobility protocols.
• Follow protocols for sepsis, ventilator-associated pneumonia, pressure ulcers, and central lines.
• Use Pyxis system appropriately for narcotics and adhere to high-risk medication policies.
• Accurately assess and care for critically ill patients, accessing resources and unit-specific policies as needed.

Work Schedule

• Night shifts: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM

Contract Length

• Approximately 8 weeks (55 days converted to weeks)

Required Qualifications

• Current California RN License
• Recent ICU RN experience in an acute care facility
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Conscious sedation experience
• Level 1 trauma experience preferred
• Neuro experience preferred

Additional Information

• Must be able to float between ICU, Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and intermediate care units to care for ICU and IMC patients.
