Certified Central Sterilization Technician

Location: Sitka, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Rotating shifts weekly between:

• Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Tuesday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  Includes call time on weekends
  Hours per Week: 40

Job Description

• Perform all steps for proper decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Support sterilization processes for other services as workload permits.
• Thoroughly disassemble instruments to remove debris, surgical soil, and bioburden before sterilization or high-level disinfection.
• Execute multi-step reprocessing procedures, including autoclaving.
• Validate and maintain records of sterilization procedures, including biological monitoring and quality assurance checks.
• Communicate effectively with providers and staff to resolve instrument shortages and suggest alternatives.
• Verify equipment functionality, request maintenance or replacement, and remove defective equipment.
• Maintain competency through return demonstrations and continuing education.
• Assist in training and certifying team members on sterilization processes as needed.
• Perform additional supply handling and inventory management duties as time permits.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician within the last year
• Certification in Sterile Processing and/or Technology through either:

  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HPSA)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Additional Information

• Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the facility location to be eligible.
• Housing and flights are not provided.
• Start date will be no less than 5 weeks after fingerprint cards are received for processing.
