Job Opportunity: MedSurg/Ortho C5 Nurse
Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit Type: MedSurg/Ortho
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 4:1 (with 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on day shift)
- Nurse Aids: Yes, day shift only (usually 12-14 patients per nurse aid)
- RT Equipment: CPAP, high flow (for palliative care patients only)
- Tele/Monitor Techs: No
- Charge Nurse: Does not take patient assignments but may assist with chemotherapy administration on/off the unit
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Post-operative patients including colorectal, urological, bariatric, hepatobiliary, hysterectomy, breast reconstruction
- Chemotherapy/Oncology patients
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (within the past 6 months)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start (max 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation (study guides provided)
- Strong post-op assessment and time management skills required due to high patient turnover
- Must have telemetry experience (floating to med/surg/tele units required)
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- ONS Chemo Provider Card preferred (ONCC certification not required)
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- No RN titration of drips required (only PCA drips)
- No requirement to read own telemetry strips
- May float to other med/surg or telemetry units, including sister facilities
- May assist with chemotherapy administration
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Self-scheduling available
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Holiday rotation schedule in place
- Standby call monitored by central staffing
- Scrub Color: Navy blue (scrubs provided)
- Orientation: Unit-specific, 2 shifts with a preceptor
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot have worked full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within the past 12 months
- Unit may admit patients to hall/overflow space and prep rooms for double-bunking as needed
- Radius rule: 50 miles from the facility
