Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• 2 holidays required within the contract period

Contract Length

• 15 weeks

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of unit experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• Competent in arterial lines
• RN license

Unit Details

• PCU
• Adult patient population
• Common patient types include cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, adult respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
• Charge nurse on each shift
• Nursing assistants/patient care techs on the unit, ratio 1:12
• RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
• RNs titrate drips
• Common drips include heparin, nitro, dopamine, Cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin
• High-flow respiratory support on the unit
• Floating required to MedSurg or ICU for PCU-acuity patients

Orientation

• 1 day of unit-specific orientation
• Pass/fail exam during orientation

Additional Information

• Driver’s license required at submittal
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends only
• Duo placements needing shared care or the same schedule are not accepted
• Call-back response time is 30 minutes
• Navy blue scrubs
• Overhead lifts, portable lifts, vein finders, and a bladder scanner are available
• Strong communication, flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork are important
• RTO must be submitted upfront; no additional RTO will be approved
