Registered Nurse (Med Surg - Acute Care)

Location: Macomb, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Overview

• 16-bed Med/Surg unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Diverse patient population with high turnover and frequent admissions/discharges
• Support staff includes 1 CNA
• Equipment includes high-flow oxygen and Vapotherm; complex respiratory support (e.g., BiPAP) managed by ICU
• Telemetry monitoring using Nihon Kohden; RNs interpret their own telemetry strips

Key Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate nursing care for medical patients (COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, CHF) and surgical patients (colon resections, total hips and knees)
• Collaborate with a small team including a clinical care coordinator, charge nurse, and weekend house supervisor
• Assist with outpatient infusions as needed (preferred experience)
• Maintain thorough and accurate charting to support quality care

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shifts: 12 hours, nights
• Schedule posted 6 weeks in advance, accommodating traveler preferences when possible
• Weekend commitment: every other or every third weekend
• No mandatory holiday shifts; volunteers appreciated
• No call or standby requirements; volunteer opportunities available
• Floating opportunities to assist as safety sitter or in other supportive roles
• Dress code: Pewter scrub tops with black pants and shoes; colored tops allowed if layered with pewter outer garment

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum of 3 years Med Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS certification
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Experience with telemetry monitoring is essential

Orientation

• Comprehensive orientation during the first week including HR processes, infection control, equipment training, and hands-on preceptorship
