Registered Nurse (RN) – Family Birth Place

Location: Jamestown, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day/night rotation (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Dress Code: Hospital laundered scrubs

Unit Overview

• Full care of labor patients, postpartum mothers, and newborns.
• Procedures include head-to-toe assessments, vaginal exams, fetal strip reading, IV starts, assisting with delivery, fundus and lochia checks, pain management, 24-hour newborn screenings, and weight/color checks for newborns returning after delivery.
• Unit consists of 3 LDRP rooms, 4 patient rooms, and 2 exam rooms.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 during labor; variable 2-6 patients depending on care mix (couplet care or split postpartum/newborn care).
• Always staffed with 2 Family Birth Place nurses in-house.
• Traveler may float to Patient Care Unit and Emergency Department as needed to assist with nursing duties.

• EPIC for charting.
• OBIX through EPIC for fetal strip surveillance.
• Philips Fetal Monitoring system.
• Omnicell Medication Cabinet.
• GE infant warmers.
• Alaris IV pumps.
• Spacelabs cardiac & vital signs monitors.
• Drager bilichek.

Required Qualifications

• Active Compact or North Dakota RN License.
• BLS Certification required.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in labor and delivery and nursery care.

Schedule and Orientation

• Variable 12-hour shifts rotating between day and night.
• Weekends and holidays required every third shift.
• 8 hours of non-billable orientation including NRP, fetal monitoring basics, and hands-on training.
• Orientation hours are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
• Option to accommodate straight night shifts if desired.

• Local placements accepted.
• Traveler expected to work collaboratively with primary staff and provide support as needed in other units.
