Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele Pulmonary

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• 30-bed Medical-Surgical unit combined with an 8-bed Progressive Care unit (IMC trained)
• Patient diagnoses include pneumonia, COPD, congestive heart failure, COVID-19, pulmonary embolism, and complex pulmonary cases
• Focus on mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, intravenous medications, moderate sedation monitoring during bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, postoperative care, non-invasive ventilation, and cardiac monitoring
• Diverse patient population with a supportive family culture
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Pulmonary Acute (IMC RNs): 1:3
  • Med-Surg: 1:4-5 (day shifts), 1:5-6 (night shifts)

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in South Dakota or a compact state
• BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
• Specialty certification preferred (e.g., Progressive Care Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing)
• Experience with Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow, Oxygen titration, Moderate Sedation, Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical patient care

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in medical-surgical and progressive care units with emphasis on pulmonary and critical care skills
• Manage patients on mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation
• Administer intravenous medications and monitor moderate sedation during bronchoscopies
• Perform cardiac monitoring and manage oxygen therapy
• Float to Med-Surg units as needed; travelers are first to be reassigned to other departments
• Participate in unit-specific or hospital-wide committees (Patient Experience, Performance Improvement, Leadership, Clinical Reasoning, Research, Ethics, Service Excellence)
• Engage in professional development and education advancement opportunities

Orientation & Training

• Day 1: Competency validation on telemetry and mechanical ventilation with Nurse Educators
• Day 2: Shift with preceptor including patient care, unit tour, and testing
• Day 3: 12-hour shift on unit

Work Schedule & Environment

• 36 hours per week
• Inpatient Pulmonary/Pulmonary Acute unit
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Dress code: Navy Blue scrubs
