Job Opportunity: Acute Care RN (SFMC - Acute Care G200)

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Acute Care G200
• Beds: 29 beds (typical census 22-26, target 25)
• Room Type: Mixture of private and semi-private rooms
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 4-5 patients per nurse
  • Night shift: 5-6 patients per nurse
• Patient Types: Medical diagnoses including GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly patients who fall, DVT, pulmonary embolisms. Patients may leave for surgery/procedures and return to the unit.

Requirements & Certifications

• Licensure: Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
• Certifications: BLS certification required
• Drug Screen: Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (no indication that prior travel experience is required)

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips (Heparin only)
• Common titratable drip: Heparin
• Expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
• No ICU or chemotherapy patient care
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float to other med/surg-like units as needed

Staffing & Support

• 24-hour Charge RN coverage (charge RN goal is to be free of assignment)
• 24-hour Crisis RN coverage
• 24-hour administrative supervisor available as a resource
• 24-hour Patient Care Tech (PCT) coverage; PCT ratio 1:10
• Telemetry monitored remotely by house-wide telemetry department; unit uses Phillips monitors
• Unit clerk (PCL) with 24-hour coverage

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm & 7pm-7am)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

  • Day shift weekends: Saturday/Sunday
  • Night shift weekends: Friday/Saturday
• Holiday Requirement: Rotated holidays
• Call/Standby: None
• Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation provided

Additional Information

• Scrub color: Any color allowed; staff must provide their own scrubs (no pediatric scrubs)
• Oxygen support up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN; no ventilators on unit
• Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift

This position is suitable for RNs with acute care experience who are comfortable managing a variety of medical diagnoses, titrating Heparin drips, and working in a supportive team environment with 24/7 clinical and administrative coverage.
