Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - 3N Cardiac Telemetry (Unit 14)
Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit: 3N - Cardiac Telemetry
- Beds: 43 semi-private beds (9-10 private)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Average 1:5 (can flex up to 1:6)
- Patient Types: Post heart catheterization, TR Bands, CHF, COPD, post pacemakers (no external pacers), medical management or awaiting CABG consult, arrhythmias
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
Experience & Skills
- Must be able to read cardiac strips confidently
- Comfortable managing patients with cardiac telemetry diagnoses
- RN required to titrate Heparin drips only (Cardizem & Amiodarone are not titrated; occasional titration of Lasix or Bumex)
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Staffing & Support
- Monitor techs available; RN’s read strips and monitor central station for the North Tower
- Charge Nurse available 24/7; travelers may be asked to take charge nurse duties if comfortable
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with ADLs, FSBS, and EKGs when able; RN must be able to perform EKGs if PCT is unavailable
- Respiratory Therapy equipment used occasionally (High Flow, Bipap, Cpap for supportive therapy only)
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts:
- Days: 07:00 - 19:30
- Nights: 19:00 - 07:30
- Self-scheduling allowed with block schedule accommodation if unit needs are met
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend for travelers (permanent staff work every 3rd weekend)
- Night weekend shifts: Friday through Monday
- Day weekend shifts: Saturday and Sunday
- Holiday shifts may be required depending on unit needs
- Call or standby is rare but possible
Orientation & Training
- 1 day computer training
- 1 day floor shadowing with preceptor
- 3rd day on own
Additional Information
- Travelers participate in float rotation within the hospital, including ICU (rare) and Stepdown units, limited to their skillset
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets allowed (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
- Unit is fast-paced with 8-12 admissions and discharges daily; teamwork is emphasized
- New grads are common and teaching is supported on this unit
