Monitor Tech - Telemetry

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) monitors approximately 336 patients daily across 7 hospitals.
Staffed by 65 total unit members, with 12 telemetry-competent staff on both day and night shifts.
Patient ratio: 40+ patients per monitor tech.
Equipment used: GE Carescape system.
Shifts are 12 hours: 06:45–19:15 and 18:45–07:15, with unit huddles at 06:53 and 18:53.
Position involves significant sitting; desks have sit-to-stand capability.
No onsite cafeteria; staff must bring food or order from nearby restaurants.
Location is approximately 8 miles from downtown Asheville; some hospitals monitored are over 1.5 hours away.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Telemetry Technician.
Telemetry Technician experience within the last year.
Completion of at least one travel assignment as a Telemetry Technician.

Preferred Qualifications

CNA background.
Cardiac nursing experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
ECG Board Certification.
Previous experience with GE monitoring systems.

Typical Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret heart rhythms.
Build end-of-shift reports within the GE Carescape system.
Add and discharge patients in the GE Carescape system.
Communicate with floor staff via desktop phone and iPhone application.
Maintain a running call log.
Demonstrate strong multitasking skills.

Work Environment & Culture

Dress code: Business casual or any color scrubs; no denim.
Weekend shifts: 6 per 6 weeks.
On-call shifts: 2 per 6 weeks, including holidays.
Positive, energetic, respectful, detail-oriented, and organized individuals who can professionally manage stress are the best fit.

Additional Notes

Travelers will be cross-trained on the GE Carescape system and Cerner Patient Observer as Virtual Sitter Attendants.
The unit does not float to other areas.
