Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (07:00 - 19:30)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: As required, typically every other weekend

Job Description

• Provide direct patient care for medical-surgical patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize care and comfort.
• Utilize nursing process consistent with Missouri Nurse Practice Act and professional standards.
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality.
• Float to similar or lower acuity units as needed.
• Work in a 60-bed unit with patient ratios of approximately 1:5 or 1:6.
• Use equipment such as bladder scanners, vein finders, IV pumps, and wound vacs.
• Document care using EPIC EMR system.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• Experience in an inpatient setting
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk most of the shift.
• Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance.
• Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs; pinch up to 15 lbs; minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Exposure to blood and body fluids.
• Flexible scheduling may be required based on patient care needs.

• Flu vaccination is mandatory for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; no declinations accepted.
• Teamwork, dependability, and flexibility are key personality traits for success.
• Scrub color: Black only; no other attire permitted.
• Orientation for night shift occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week is required.

• Medical patients with trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities.

This travel RN position offers an opportunity to work in a medical-surgical unit with a supportive team environment, utilizing a variety of clinical skills and equipment. The role requires at least one year of inpatient Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year, current Missouri RN licensure, ASN or ADN degree, and BLS certification.
