Job Overview

As an Occupational Therapist at New London Hospital, you will evaluate, plan, direct, and administer Occupational Therapy treatments prescribed by licensed physicians. You will work in an environment focused on patient safety and quality outcomes, primarily in outpatient rehabilitation settings. The role involves treating a diverse patient population including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer treatments and occupational therapy modalities to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability.
• Assist patients in reaching their maximum functional performance and adapting to their capabilities.
• Evaluate treatment effectiveness and recommend changes to physicians as needed.
• Perform thorough evaluations and reassessments based on therapy needs.
• Assess patient pain and coordinate with physicians for intervention when pain interferes with rehabilitation.
• Develop and implement teaching plans for patients and families, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
• Safely operate and maintain therapy equipment and ensure department cleanliness and safety.
• Collaborate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teams to develop and coordinate care plans.
• Consult with other departments to enhance patient care and participate in performance improvement activities.
• Supervise and direct Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Aides, students, and certification applicants.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and departmental records.
• Assist with orientation and ongoing training of department staff.
• Ensure timely and accurate patient charge entry.

Required Qualifications

• BLS Certification (AHA)
• Licensed Occupational Therapist with eligibility to practice in New Hampshire
• Graduate from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience providing Occupational Therapy in an outpatient setting
• Familiarity with best practices and evidence-based treatments for upper quadrant pathologies including degenerative conditions, neurologic impairments, orthopedics, and post-operative care
• Proficiency in manual therapy, neuro-rehabilitation techniques, exercise modalities, and functional activity training
