Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care. The RN provides clinical leadership to the patient care team during the assigned shift and ensures coordination and quality of care for labor and delivery patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to the healthcare team during the shift.
- Assess patients’ conditions through direct observation, rounding, and data from team members.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans with measurable outcomes.
- Coordinate care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.
- Document and report care delivered to physicians and team members.
- Provide performance feedback to team members and contribute to appraisals.
- Maintain knowledge and skills through orientation, in-service programs, and ongoing education.
- Serve as a positive role model and promote a safe environment through teaching strategies.
- Coordinate bed and patient care assignments to ensure consistent care delivery.
- Evaluate progress toward goals and report outcomes appropriately.
- Enhance professional growth through communication, teaching, stress management, conflict resolution, and team-building classes annually (in addition to unit-specific education).
Patient Load
- Approximately 10 to 12 patients per day.
Required Qualifications
- ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 1 year of hire required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification within 90 days of hire highly preferred.
- BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire highly preferred.
