Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech

• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

• Shift: Evening, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (2:30 PM – 11:00 PM)
• Guaranteed 40 hours per week
• Call Requirements: 1 weekend on-call shift every 4 weeks (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
• Request Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after holidays

Facility Requirements

• Mandatory floating within scope to other services as needed

Experience & Specialty Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a Level I or Level II trauma center or large teaching hospital
• Strong experience in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and Trauma surgical services

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential in Illinois through either:

  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Note: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech license is not required

Required Health and Compliance Documents

• Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
• Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; must include all aliases
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
• Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
• Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
• Immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, and Hepatitis B (or signed declination)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; testing initiated within 48 hours of contract signing
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)

Additional Competency Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
• Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months of start)
• Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid Surgical Technologist license in Illinois
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist, including experience within the last year
• Experience in a large teaching hospital setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
